2000's

After much planning and research, the new, expanded Johnstown Medical Centre was formally opened in 2001. This facility has helped us deliver a better community based service.

Along with the new practice building, we continued to invest in new computers and networks to provide a modern Electronic Health Record. Ms Ursula Thorp was appointed our first Practice Manager. She has trained and worked very hard to improve our patient care and practice efficiency.

Dr. John Mason retired from the practice in 2002. His patients missed him greatly. His legacy to the practice patients was to deliver up to date, patient-centred medical care with a GP team that works very well together.

John became ill after he retired, and passed away in 2005. Maeve and the Mason family were very grateful for the huge expressions of support from patients, since his funeral.

In 2002, Dr Brian Kilbride joined our partnership. He brought great experience of both hospital medicine and general practice which has been a great asset to the Johnstown Medical Centre.

The Practice Nurse Service also underwent change as Practice Nurse Mary Burke joined us. Mary had previously worked at senior nursing levels in St. Michael’s Private Hospital and elsewhere and in a general practice. She has enhanced our service, especially for babies and women’s Health.

Dr Michael Flynn continued to provide leadership at a national GP Training level and we were all delighted for Michael, and Tess, when he was elected President of the Irish College of General Practitioner's, for the 2005-2006 period. Thus, Michael was the 2nd GP from our practice to be elected as national President of the ICGP.
