After Hours Service

Our DLDOC GP Coop has recently joined  the EDOC group of doctors. Should you require an urgent medical opinion when the practice is not open, a very expert review can be obtained by contacting EDOC. See www.edoc.ie .

The EDOC Out of Hours Cooperative is staffed by ourselves and by the roughly fifty full time General Practitioners from the member general practices in our area who all do sessions on regular basis. All the attending doctors work full time in the locality and are familiar with the services in the area and how best to utilize them. In addition to the usual old DLDOC hours of service with our local GPs from 6-10pm week nights and 10am to 6pm weekends and bank holidays, there have been some significant upgrades to our service.

We are now fully computerized and  have moved to the new outpatient rooms in St. Michael’s Hospital.

After 10pm on weeknights and after 6pm on weekends and bank holidays, EDOC will be able to provide expert opinion from fully vocationally trained general practitioners either in our treatment centres or  with a house call.

The service operates Monday to Friday 6pm to 8am
Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays operates 24 hour a day.
Phone 2234500 for an appointment.

For Medical Emergencies Dial 999 for an ambulance

EDOC  is accessed through the front door of the main hospital. The service is available to all patients who attend local participating practices. Attendance is by booked appointment and waiting time is usually less than 20 minutes. A report of your visit will be emailed that day to the Johnstown Medical Centre to keep us aware of your attendance and any possible further follow up.

This service is considerably cheaper than the private clinics operated by private insurers and you will most often get a much more expert opinion from a more experienced G.P. than available elsewhere. GPs have consistently been shown to manage most medical problems in a more efficient manner with less need for expensive or unnecessary investigations.

The service is covered without charge to GMS and Doctor only visit card holders and costs €70  for private patients. Payment is by cash or cheque only, no laser or credit cards possible.

Parking is available on street at the back of St. Michael’s Hospital or in the Bloomfields Shopping Centre though usual charges apply.
