Dr. Barry Danaher

Graduated from University Colege Dublin MB. BCh. BAO. 1992 Diploma in Child Health 1995 Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry 1995 Member of the Irish College of General Practitioners 1996 Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (England) 1996 Higher Diploma in Occupational Health 2006 Licentiate Fellow in Occupational Medicine 2006.

Dr Barry Danaher qualified in Medicine in 1992 from University College Dublin. After internship in the Mater Hospital he entered the Dublin Region Vocational Training Scheme in general practice and completed rotations in accident and emergency eedicine in St James Hospital, Dublin; general medicine in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan; psychiatry in St. Loman’s Hospital, Dublin and paediatrics in The Children’s Hospital, Temple Street, Dublin. He completed his GP registrar/ trainee position in Johnstown Medical Centre in 1996. He continued in the practice for a further year, before departing for Australia and working as a GP in Queensland between 1997 and 1998. In 1998 he returned to Johnstown Medical Centre to take up position as incoming full time partner.

He is an active continuing medical education (CME) attender and has been his local CME group’s leader since the late 1990s. He has worked with post graduates and undergraduates; working as a tutor for the Eastern Region Vocational Training Scheme for 3 years as well as subsequently tutoring medical undergraduates in their Early Patient Contact and Person and Population Health Courses, subsequently becoming director of both courses. He became director of the Clinical Skills Centre in UCD between 2004 and 2006 and was heavily involved in the establishment and running of the Clinical Skills Course during that time. He has also worked with the Medical Council in running the OSCE examinations for overseas doctors coming to Ireland. In 2004 he returned to studying himself and completed his Higher Diploma in Occupational Health in 2006 (also awarded LFOM, Licentiate Fellow in Occupational Medicine the same year).

Barry is married and has 1 daughter.
