Immunisations and Vaccines Update

Cervical Cancer vaccine

Our GPs encouraged by the new National Vaccine programme for young female teenagers against the HPV virus. This free national service is via the School Vaccine programme and is aimed at first year students in secondary schools.

Our Vaccine service offer at Johnstown Medical Centre:

  • Young women up to the age of 26 years may also benefit from the anti-HPV vaccine programme.

We provide the HPV vaccine service here (brand name, Gardasil)

  • it needs 3 jabs, 1st shot - at 0 months, 2nd shot - 2 months later and 3rd shot – at 6 months

Please tel Reception + arrange this vaccine with Practice Nurse Mary.

Other Adult Vaccines Updates:

Aside from travels abroad, many adults need preventive courses or updates on Vaccines to prevent uncommon but avoidable illnesses

Vaccines routinely available here include:

  • Flu shot (influenza)
  • Pneumococcal (pneumonia and meningitis)
  • Tetanus and Diphteria (lockjaw and diphtheria disorders)
  • Varicella zoster (chicken pox and shingles)
  • Rubella (german measles)
