Dr. Aoife Melia

Aoife is working with us this year as a fourth year General Practice Registrar.

Aoife  grew up in County Galway and was educated at the Presentation
College, Tuam . She completed a degree in Radiography at University College
Dublin, before moving to Scotland to study Medicine at the University of
Glasgow. She gained experience in Trauma Medicine working alongside the
helicopter emergency medicine service (HEMS) in London. After qualifying in
2014, she worked her junior and senior years in the NHS at Forth Valley
Royal Hospital, Scotland. She completed training in acute medicine,
orthopaedics, elderly medicine and intensive care during this time.

In 2016, Aoife gained entry to the Trinity College general practice training
scheme. Over the course of the following three years she received further
specialist training in the areas of Paediatrics at the National  Children’s
Hospital Tallaght, Psychiatry at St Patricks Hospital and Palliative Care at
Our Lady’s Hospice Harold’s cross. She also did rotations in emergency
medicine in Beaumont, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the National
Maternity Hospital, Holles Street. She has just completed her registrar year
as a GP at Kilcock medical practice in Kildare.
Aoife is currently involved in a large multicentre research project in the area of palliative
care.
Aoife enjoys skiing, running, hiking and travelling.
